   Oh yes, sweet as pie! Rory (my firstborn) is a big giant infant much of the time. In fact, as I type right now, he is draped across my shoulders, trying to nurse on my neck. He's definitely my most affectionate cat, but also my rowdiest. He jumps on top of doors and shower curtain rods, or onto my back when I'm not expecting it, and he often bites me (once hard enough to warrant a doctor's visit and antibiotics just a few weeks ago!).
   
   Coyotito, in my avatar, is a foster kitty (probably not leaving though - people aren't lining up for neurotic cats) and a bit of a non-traditional orange boy - he's very energetic and swings wildly between being desperately affectionate and scared out of his mind.
   
   I'm in Oakland, not far from you at all! I'm with Feral Cat Foundation (www.feralcatfoundation.org) which covers Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
   
   I'm sure it's just awful missing Orangey... I can't even imagine how I'd feel if Rory were to pass away. I would be devastated for sure. It's amazing how empty a multi-cat household can feel when even just one of them is gone.

   Just before Halloween, we lost a mom cat, Punkin.....she was so special. We trapped her in a junk yard once we heard the owner wanted her gone (even if someone had to kill her to make that happen)...she was tiny, feral and hugely pregnant and undernourished....we got her home with about 2 weeks to get her nourished enough to survive having the litter (she was way too pregnant to abort the kittens and she turned out to be FIV+). Poor little girl would walk and fall over like a turtle on her back from the enormousness of her tummy. She had 9 beautiful kittens!! Two days later, 2 of them died but the rest lived and thrived. She was the best mommy you could imagine and she too was the ALPHA. One of her kittens was so shy that we had to speak in whispers around her so she wouldn't run....the rest were bold and daring.... we named her Whisper kitty. There was one male who clung to the mom cat and she even allowed him to nurse over a year later....his name is Ruppert. When Punkin had to be put down, due to unexplained fluid build up in her abdomen and chest and CHF that appeared suddenly, it was the hardest thing we've had to do....she had become part of the family and it was 3 years to the day that we trapped her that she became too ill to survive and began to suffer. We left the vet's office with her in our arms, brought her home and laid her in their room so the babies could say goodbye to her. They mourned her, laid with her for a couple hours, cried for her and then we buried her out in our backyard with the others who went before her. Within a day or so we noticed the changes in the house. The babies looked for her constantly and cried but Whisper suddenly became brave and took on most of Punkin's traits. Punkin used to "herd" her babies and push them in the direction she wanted them to go....now Whisper does it. Punkin would let Ruppert and one other kitten snuggle with her to sleep, now Whisper does that. Whisper looks very much like Punkin, but Punkin had a certain look she would give you that none could match....now Whisper has that look every so often. This is not the first time we've seen this happen here, which is why it's hard to NOT believe that their spirits remain.....especially after you have "rescued them". We've seen some part of every cat that has passed show up in a cat that remains or the next one that comes in. It's strangely spooky, yet calming to know that they are still with us.....like ghost kitties that we just can't see. Watch for him.....he's still there with you......Orangey loved you too much to leave. I hope you don't think I'm nuts, but if you do there are others who do also and that's ok....I just know what we see here and believe they remain.

   Hi there,
   
   My "first-born son", now 6.5, is an orange boy and he's been a handful from Day 1 - but there's nobody else like him in the world! I've found nearly all of my orange fosters (and many of the other colors too, but the oranges, always!) to be full of the dickens too.

   Missing Orangey a lot. It is so different without him, even though I have lots of other kitties. He was everywhere!
